20 years of MapFactor

MapFactor celebrated 20 years at the end of April. We are proud of the many things we have achieved and are pleased with the number of satisfied customers that have been using our navigation software and tracking solutions over the years.

Description

The company was founded in 2001 and a year later released its first application, PC Navigator for Windows. The following year it led the way by introducing a reasonably priced tracking solution VTU007. In 2005 the VTU tracking units became one of the first to send positions through the internet.

However, MapFactor is best known for the Navigator navigation apps for phones and other portable devices.

In 2007 MapFactor released its first navigation product for Windows CE and Pocket PC called Pocket Navigator. Since then, this has grown to support Android (from 2012), Windows Phone (from 2015) and iOS (from 2018).

With 50 million downloads worldwide Navigator belongs among the leading offline navigation apps on all platforms.

In 2018 we released a lightweight app Wake Me There – GPS Alarm helping commuters and travelers not to miss their destination. We could not have foreseen how helpful this app would be in 2020, helping people during COVID-19 restrictions to stay within government mandated distances from home.

2018 meant also the introduction of a new Tracking4Free VTU18-OBD tracking unit.

Further big changes came last year with a new user interface in Navigator 6 for Android which made searching for destination and navigation easier and faster. We have also released Navigator PRO versions for Android and iOS which brought an advantageous subscription concept for all regular drivers.

We are further intensively working on further enhancements of our navigation apps. Coverage with HD Traffic now covers almost 90 territories all over the world. And very soon we release Navigator with Android Auto connectivity.
